Michael Barbara, D.O. is the director of the Indiana Diet and Nutrition Center (3660 Guion Road, Suite 310) in Indianapolis. Dr. Barbara is a board-certified Internal Medicine Specialist whose practice involves gastroenterology, nutrition and weight management. He has been involved with Westview Hospital for 24 years, treating patients in both the hospital and outpatient settings.

Over the years Dr. Barbara has seen an alarming rise in obesity among his patients. It is estimated that by 2010, 70% of all Americans will be considered overweight. Our culture makes food very accessible, in portion sizes that are out of control, and the food itself is very high in fat and calories. Yet losing just 10% of your body weight (which would be 20 pounds in a 200 pound person) can have enormous benefits to your health, increasing your energy and bringing health problems like diabetes and high blood pressure under control. One common benefit of losing weight is that it can reduce the number of medications you have to take, if not eliminating the need for them altogether.

Fad diets and lose-weight-quick schemes abound, but Dr. Barbara has been using the Health Management Resources® program in his practice for the past 13 years because it has good-tasting food and offers its patients structure, yet still gives them a variety of healthy options to choose from. Where We Are The Indiana Diet and Nutrition Center is located at 3660 Guion Road in Indianapolis. It is off West 38th Street and near Lafayette Road, on the west side of Indianapolis. It is on the 3rd floor of the Westview Healthplex and is part of the campus of Westview Hospital.
